Babies love Sweets and Soirées too, lol ;-)

Bryce is enjoying one of our mini cupcakes, which are perfect baby size by the way! His flavor of choice was a combination of lemon cake and yummy raspberry frosting, mmmm. It was reported to me that he smashed then ate, great technique Bryce! Notice how he’s trying to open wide enough to get the whole cupcake in his mouth, hahah. Too stinking cute for words! Thanks to his grandmother Laura Miller for providing this fun photo.
Newest Flavor Sensation!
Just this weekend, I tried a new flavor for an open house. It was a HUGE hit! So I’m adding it to our list of gourmet flavors alongside the Banana Pudding Cake and our version of the Strawberry Shortcake.
It was aptly named by a friend, it is called "Chocolate Amaretto Crunch"! Sounds yummy right?! Here’s what it contains – our already deliciously moist chocolate cake, two layers of amaretto mousse (almond), a layer of chocolate ganache with toffee bits all covered in our creamy vanilla buttercream. I know you say this combination sounds a bit complicated but believe me, the flavors are great together. Who doesn’t looove chocolate and nuts together?. Reminds you a bit of a Hershey’s Almond Bar or a Symphony Bar, anyone remember those?

Do you have a favorite candy or other dessert that you’d like to see made into a cake? I’m always working on new recipes and combinations. Drop me a note if you have any ideas!
Keep your eyes open for new gourmet flavors as well as our special holiday menu, coming SOON!!

WeddingWire is a very helpful website for brides. It has lots of gadgets and tools for budgeting, floor plans, seating charts and much more. The best thing on this site is reviews for lots of vendors in your area. The reviews come from brides who have actually worked with those vendors. There are also reviews, or endorsements, from other vendors which are helpful as well because you do want to know how your chosen vendor “plays with others”!

Sweets and Soirées was also awarded the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award by WeddingWire for demonstrating “excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility”.

From the mouth of Martha Stewart…
This month in Martha Stewart Weddings, there is a long article with 50 tips on how to save money for your wedding. Here are a few of the highlights:
*Rank your priorities.
*Think out-of-the-banquet-hall.
*Say YES to all-inclusive.
*Think monochromatic (all one color).
*Supersize your flowers — choose larger buds so that you will need less flowers.
*Give a newbie a break.
*Eat family style.
*Limit your bar — perhaps beer, wine and a signature cocktail.
*Cut the cake — serve other less costly desserts.
*Lose the limo.
*Hire an expert — a wedding planner/coordinator.
The last one is one our favorites! It might seem crazy but hiring a planner or coordinator can actually SAVE you $$. How you ask? By using their connections with vendors, by negotiating on your behalf for lower rates and because they have worked with brides on a budget before, they know how to help you! Let us put our expertise to work for you, I know you won’t be sorry
.
Other suggestions we especially like:
Give a newbie a break! Just because a company is new, doesn’t mean they don’t know what they’re doing! Check out their work, have a meeting with them, you could be pleasantly surprised!
Say YES to all inclusive! Find a venue with a package. For instance Historic Kinloch offers an all inclusive package which offers you the venue, food, flowers, cake, etc, for one low price. With most deals like this, you can pay a bit extra and upgrade the elements that you care about most. Also look for vendors who offer packages as well. For instance flowers and cake.
Cut the cake! Consider cupcakes or a dessert bar. This could prove to be less expensive than a multi-tiered cake with intricate details.
When all else fails, talk to your vendors about your budget up front. If you find that what you want initially is too expensive, ask them what they can do for the money you have! Ask about substitions, etc.
And if we can help at all, let us know!
